The States General for Soil Health

Whenever soil health is the topic of the day, we endeavour to be a voice in the conversation. One such opportunity is coming up soon in the form of the second edition of The States General for Soil Health.

The event is organised by the Re Soil Foundation, JRC, and the Ecomondo Scientific Community. The main goal of the second edition, titled „Sustainable carbon cycles – Healthy soils for a climate-neutral economy”, is to present the latest European policy update and provide an overview of the key elements needed to support a successful soil strategy. It will take place on 9th November in Rimini.

Last year’s edition of the event which took place in November 2022, resulted in the creation of the General States for Soil Health Wrap Up. The full document can be read here.

The Re Soil Foundation, an ECHO participant, aims to protect one of our planet’s most important and neglected natural resources.

Soil protection is crucial to achieve the challenging and undelayable goals set by the EU Climate Law, which foresees climate neutrality by 2050. The European Soil Monitoring Law, presented by the EC in July 2023, as part of the EU soil strategy for 2030, represents a key step toward healthy soils and sets the path for EU Member States that are expected to act in the same direction. Among other things, the European Commission, DG CLIMA, focuses on sustainable carbon cycles with measures to support new nature-based removals, as carbon farming.
